THE MAT ETIQUETTE
KAIZEN is a place of camaraderie and excellence with an atmosphere of respect, professionalism, and humility. Students must display good etiquette on and off the mat and must follow the rules as established by Professor Bruno Jacaré.
Be respectful and kind to everyone at all times.
Bow as a sign of respect when you get on and off the mat.
Shoes are never to be worn on the mat.
Once on the mat, shake everyone’s hand in descending belt rank.
While class is in session, always ask Professor to come on and off the mat.
Be on time for class. If there is a time conflict, please discuss with Professor.
Keep your gi clean, matching, and without wear and tear.
Always have your gi and belt tied properly while on the mat.
Keep your gi on while on the mat.
Refrain from talking while the class is in session.
Use proper language suitable for a family environment.
A rash guard or shirt must be worn under the gi.
Silence all cell phones during class.
Eating and chewing gum on the mat is prohibited.
Stay humble, especially after getting a submission.
Work on your weakness.
Win or lose, keep training.
Never let your ego hurt you, just tap.
Leave the negativity at the door. Positivity only.
